I’ve been having so much fun in my sketchbook lately! I’m playing with all kinds of textures (as I mix media) and I’ve been enjoying using colour combinations that are different from my standard ones.
On Friday I shared all my January sketches and answered lots of mixed media questions during the first livestream inside my new Sketching Adventure Community on Patreon. It’s very special to have this new place to share more work and ideas with such a supportive group of sketchers. I’m so happy with how this community is forming – so a huge thanks to everyone who is already part of it.
During this livestream (the replay is available for paid members of the community), I revealed the materials I’ve been using at the moment – Neocolor II crayons (see here for my current selection), Posca acrylic Markers and… something brand new… a 12 colour palette of Kuretake Gansai Tambi paints. These are semi-opaque paints that are somewhere between gouache and watercolour but as they are made with a different binder, (“Water soluble resin” is what the Kuretake site says) and they feel quite different. I’ve been enjoying the challenge of trying something new. I’ve been using the Muted 12 colour set (you can see the colours in the image on this post on Patreon), and it’s been lots of fun to work with a decidedly quirky selection of colours.
Here are a few of my pages from last month to give you an idea of the variety of colour and texture I’ve been creating.
I hope that you have had a good start to the year with your sketching.
