New travel sketching course - coming Sept 2024

If you haven’t already heard…

I’m preparing a brand new course on quick Travel Sketching – and I’m super excited about it!

A few months ago, I asked my SketchingNow community to share their top three travel sketching challenges. The most popular response was that it is hard to find time to sketch when travelling with others and that it’s hard to know how to choose a scene and start sketching.

So I’ve been developing some special techniques to help with this. These are new ideas that I’ve never shared before, and I’ve been having a ball using them in my own sketching lately – both for everyday sketching in my local area and more recently, during my trip to Melbourne. I not only put these techniques into practice while I was out and about with friends, but I also filmed a number of demos during a few days of unplanned exploration of Melbourne City. So I’ll be able to share real-world travel sketching experiences inside the course! 🙂

My regular sketching habit is deeply rooted in travel sketching. I began my first Moleskine sketchbook back in 2007 so that I could start training for a trip to Europe later that year. When I look back at my early work, I’m struck by how many strategies I used almost from day 1 so that I could sketch when I was out and about with others. I’ve always aimed to sketch during the in-between moments of life. So this is what this new course will be all about.

My new Travel Sketching course will be perfect for total beginners who want to start sketching and for more experienced sketchers who struggle to find the time to record their adventures in their sketchbooks when on the go.

The course will be released in September, and I’ll share more about it (plus lots of general tips about travel sketching) in the coming months.

Are you excited about the new course too?
