Watercolour is perfect for the muted hues of an overcast day!
After months of using the Arkaar palette (see here) and a water brush, it’s nice to get back to my everyday palette and my beloved dagger brush. (I’m currently using the 3/8-inch size in the travel format.)
Notes:
1. When I use watercolour these days, I never wait for any part to dry, so I get some fun, happy accidents when washes merge together. There are quite a few in this sketch – I can see at least five! Here’s one of them.
2. I did this sketch from my parked car sitting in the driver’s seat and I added the sky back home.

In not waiting for it to dry does that include closing the book or turning the page to paint on the other side? Even in my desert dry climate I sometimes wait what feels forever for me to be able to turn the page for the next sketch! Do you turn the page or close the book damp, or wait for dry?
Hi Jamie – I’m referring just to wet paint on the page while I’m working. Your comment prompted a separate article
