This morning we had Week1 of my Sketching Mosman class and we were based at Balmoral on a beautiful day. We started the day at a lovely large table at Bathers Pavilion cafe …
We were looking at the importance of learning to see, accuracy and setup. I did my usual introduction (getting carried away talking about sketching yet again) and then we did some exercises drawing some of the empty coffee cups on the day looking at two different ways to approach sketching- gestural or measured. I also brought my BCN Volume 1 sketchbook to show how I had tackled some of my sketches from my recent trip using one or the other of these approaches.
After another round of coffees (and muffins… we are doing it in style this time …allowing my class to have two rounds of coffee during the class as opposed to none some weeks!) we headed outside to sketch the view and see how these two approaches work out on location. Lots of inspiring work and a great time of sharing everyone’s experiences (oops! I forgot to take a photo of everyone’s work!)
I really love sharing the process of sketching with others and I can not think of a nicer way to spend a Wednesday (late winter’s) morning! Can’t wait for next week!
