I’m trying to get back into the habit of blogging more regularly, so today I want to share with you the sketches which I did over my “Summer Break” – the end of December and the beginning of January.
BARE ISLAND
Lunch and a quick sketch at Bare Island with Esther Semmens (who was visiting from Scotland).
It was hard to find some shade to sit in!
THE ROCKS
A big group turned up to an ‘adhoc’ sketching day and a small gang was still sketching at 4pm (inset).
Super quick loose sketch of the Sydney Opera House.
First sketch of Susannah Place
Two more (talking all the time!)
Simple line drawing at Foundation Park after lunch.
My last sketch of the day was this one of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
BOBBIN HEAD NATIONAL PARK
A day in the bush on a hot day. (Bush = Australian for forest)
I managed to sneak in a little sketch because I gave up early on the bushwalk!
BALMAIN
Last chance sketching with Esther on the way to the airport
I need to come back to Balmain and sketch some more soon!
WATSON’S BAY
On the way to an USK SYD sketchmeet at Watson’s Bay – it was incredibly windy on the ferry but at least I tried to sketch!
Big scene sketched small, small scene sketched big.
One more at Watson’s Bay.
Ah, it’s so good to get back to the discipline of sharing my everyday sketches… and I even scanned them too!

I am getting excited to sketch in Sydney when we move there later this year! So much to do and so different from both the US and the UK!
oh ah! thats exciting!
Hi Liz ! Wow ! you are so productive! After following your Watercolour course, I now look at our sketches in a different eye. Thank you for sharing ! Diane
thanks Diane – a lot of water in some of these sketches!
Love these sketches! And like Diane, now I look at these with the lessons of the watercolor class behind me! 🙂 I love the water in that last sketch.
Thanks Emily. My water is not very realistic, but I have fun doing it.
Love your summer sketches. I will have to remember these locations for my visit to Sydney that is coming up. I definitely plan on contacting the Sydney Urban Sketchers to see if I can meet up with them. Will be in Sydney from April 26th to May 2, and then off to Perth.
I love the loose ones. My favourite is the coloured, tight-angle receding bridge. The colours are perfect for me – not over-saturated, but still bursting with earth-tone warmth.
I’d like to have that on my wall!
Thanks Pbass Wil!
