So the road trip began today!
I started the day reading Psalm 121 – the traveller’s psalm – and then I decided to have a quiet moment and then sketch my cup of tea. This is a favourite ‘easy’ cup to sketch.
I used to always do a teacup sketch before a big trip so it was nice to revive this tradition!
I also jotted down a few thoughts (another ‘starting-a-trip tradition’)
This week Chris Haldane is joining me. It’s lovely to have a friend to start my adventure!
We headed to the Blue Mountains and the first sketch spot was Sublime View with a view to the back of the Three Sisters.
The conditions were tricking – we were looking through a wire fence and having its shadow on our page.
I’m not yet used to the Moleskine paper so it was good to do this challenging warmup!
After a late lunch we visited Echo Point. It’s bizarre to see it so empty!
We sketched from Queen Elizabeth Lookout which seemed appropriate!
I did a big sketch filling a double page spread. It doesn’t look like it in this photo, but I assure you it feels huge! It was hard to see what I was doing!
We did other stuff today, but I just wanted to share a few highlights and start the habit of writing articles for you. I hope to share a few updates a week but you might also want to follow me on Instagram where I will be sharing video during the day in my stories.

So fun to see another three sisters sketch as you used it in your courses before. Have fun travelling!
Thanks Martine! Ah! yes… this sketch of the 3 sisters took a little longer than the one I did in the livestream earlier this year!
Great start!

I didn’t know that Psalm 121 was called the Traveller’s Psalm. A new addition to my travel sketchbooks. TY!
Thanks Barbara – yes! its a common name for it – been reading it before trips for decades!
