I haven’t been sketching much architecture on location lately (when was the last time I sketched a JimmyB building?) so it was a little bit of a shock to the system to tackle a part of Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday evening. It really is an elaborate building so I needed to use all of my observational and analytical skills to draw it. Even though I’m sketching on location a lot these days in my local area, a building such as this one requires extra mental effort!
I’m also out of practice sketching in very crowded areas! When I sat down in Sydney Square it was fairly quiet but then I was surrounded by a few hundred high school girls who were waiting to enter the Town Hall for an event. As a result, I had a number of fun conversations that threw my concentration a little.
But despite feeling a little rusty on both accounts I had so much fun doing this sketch and hope to have another go at this view again soon.

So glad to see you focused on watercolor & serious sketching!
Greetings from US! Happy to see your black and white building sketching. What a great work! I enjoyed seeing your line sketch.
So very good to see you back with buildings again:)
Gorgeous sketch! It is still a bit of a shock to be out in crowds again, isn’t it?
