After a wonderful Sunday worshiping with a great local church, I went out to do a sketch or two before meeting up with Shirley.
A quick sketch of the American Folk Museum before meeting with Shirley at MOMA. She has memberships at every gallery (or so it seems)!
Continuing to sketch my food and tea!
And then a little time on my own…. going up to the Top of the Rock – Rockefeller Centre.
As I was going up in the lift I was thinking about panoramic sketches…
…but when I arrived at the top the view of the Empire State building blew me away and I ended up doing two vertical sketches. It was a hot and humid day and I did these very quickly standing up.
Ok… time to visit a tearoom – Tea & Sympathy in Greenwich Village!
This was a VERY GOOD tearoom! And it was also the start of a craze with rose petal tea.
The wonderful Flatiron Building – done directly after my tea overdose! I loved doing this sketch so much – and especially as there was a comfy table and chair to sit on.
Another day and another museum with Shirley. Waiting for the Met to open.
Something different – from a great exhibition in the Met – American Woman. (Colour added from memory later)
The lovely Met courtyard and then Shirley made sure that I had the best bagel in town!
It was a hot day but surprisingly it was more pleasant walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Two photos of Shirley – my amazing guide for the week. Thank you my friend!!!
View from Brooklyn – it was super fun to catch up with Jason again and to sketch Manhattan from Brooklyn. Wish I had more time to explore Brooklyn!
My last evening in NYC… Sketching Grand Central Station – yet another overwhelming NYC experience! (overwhelming in a good way)
It was my last morning – so a quick sketch of my lovely room.
Early morning sketch of the famous Guggenheim museum – of course I went in there mainly to visit the building (rather than the art!)
A few quick sketches inside.
My last sketches in New York before I headed to back to my room to wait for the shuttle to the airport.
A very long drive to the airport!
My time in the USA has come to an end. What an amazing way to start my big trip!
A spare seat next to me meant that I had to sketch my food, didn’t I?
Edinburgh… here I come!
