Inktober begins

October 3, 2016 | 6 Comments

I am going to start the #inktober2016 challenge simply. My life is a little out of control at the moment, so whatever I do for Inktober needs to be fun and not add any extra load to my already packed schedule.

I know a lot of you think the same way about fitting a daily sketch into your current routine, so my advice to you is not to add any extra pressure or expectation.

Start simply and slowly and then you can build momentum as you get into the swing of things.

I also know that there are a lot of people that want to improve their drawing, or even start sketching. A month of drawing in ink is a great kick start for that. So what I plan to do for Inktober is to work through some of the ideas from my SketchingNow Foundations online course. I feel like getting back to basics is exactly what I need at the moment. Nothing fancy, just taking it slowly and recording the adventures of my daily life in a few lines or ink washes.

Day 1:
A simple sketch of my empty coffee cup done with a brush pen. It has permanent ink in it, but by working quickly I was able to soften the shapes with a waterbrush whilst the ink was still wet.

Details:
Platinum Weasel Brush Pen with Platinum Cabon Ink (permanent) and Pentel Aquash Waterbrush large.

Day 2:
Catching up on for day 2 (Sunday is my day off for work and drawing) so here is a Monday morning sketch on Saturday evenings’ activity. Late night video editing.

As for the sketch, it is a very simple line drawing trying to use continuous line as much as possible. Feeling Edges and not worrying too much about accuracy.

I think I will branch out for some coloured ink for day 3.

I will be posting each day to my Instagram account, but as my workload for the next few days is truly insane, I will be having a few days off posting here to my blog. See you later in the week.
