A quick article today with four recent sketches.
In all four, I was playing with Poscas and Neocolor II. I’m absolutely loving the matte opacity achieved when I use these two media.
This photo shows the tools I’m using. I’d love to have more Posca markers with me, but limiting myself to two Mead Five Star pencil pouches is a good restriction!
Here are the scans of the four sketches…
A quick sketch at Circular Quay.
Lots of experimentation in The Rocks – looking towards The Tea Cosy.
I’m very happy with this simple sketch of a very plain and boring scene – St Leonards station – after an unexpected dentist appointment.
Finally – A limited palette sketch of the pumping station near The Art Scene.
I’m having so much fun!

Pretty cool!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks, Lois!
Do you find the Posca layers up over the Neocolor 2 without getting clogged?
I really like the graphic but sketcherly look of St. Leonard’s station. Simple, bold color blocks – very pleasing.
Hi Joey – yes, I love that St L sketch too – especially as it was an ugly boring scene.
To date not clogging the Poscas – no problem getting ink out… but the tips are getting scuffed! I actually like this as it is gives me more options!
If you love “matte opacity” you really must try gouache! Thanks for the ongoing inspiration and advice?.
Hi Paul – yes totally! this is transition for gouache!
The colors are so striking!
Thanks Jamie!
