Europe19: Utrecht and Edam

August 21, 2019 | 1 Comment

A quick post today sharing a few sketches which I did during two day trips out of Amsterdam. The first one was to Utrecht with Chantal Vincent a few days before the symposium and the other one was the Monday afterwards with Suhita Shirodkar and Shari Blaukopf. Both were relaxed social days rather than serious sketching adventures.

Utrecht

Lovely main canal

and garden in the courtyard of the cathedral.

But as for sketching, this day was more about socialising (meeting an amazing copywriter and catching up with Chantal on the last 3 months), so I only got two sketches done – this was the one done over afternoon coffee.

Edam

This town was unbelievably beautiful! This was the view we had just off the bus.

A quaint town

A much more productive day starting with a morning cafe visit.

A wonky building

The outside of the cafe.

A picnic lunch by a canal with a little sketching.

A quick line sketch of the main tower – I did this as a drawing exercise for my upcoming Watercolour On Location course. If you were on the mailing list for my new course Watercolour On Location you would have seen my review of this sketch!

Another insanely beautiful view

Final sketch of the day. What a treat to spend the day here with Shari and Suhita – thanks for letting me join you.

So guess what… this is the last article with sketches from my big trip. Just my ‘reflections’ left to do.
