Easter sketching

April 21, 2025 | Leave your thoughts

I had a quiet Easter but I did manage to do a little sketching. I feel as if sketching a hot cross bun and a chocolate Bilby is a tradition of mine, but it seems, according to my tags, that I haven’t shared any Easter sketches for many years.

I used my chocolate Bilby as an exercise in foreshortening!

If you have somehow missed it…Foreshortening is the monthly theme I’m exploring inside my Sketching Adventure Community on Patreon, and I’m looking forward to sharing all my April sketches and insights into this challenging theme during our monthly livestream, which is coming up this Friday – find out more about my community here.

I’m absolutely loving having a whole month to explore a theme with the very special group of sketchers who make up this community. And it’s great keeping up with everything that they are sketching each week.

Bilbies are endangered native Australian marsupials, and a chocolate Bilby is an alternative to the Easter Bunny. They are very cute – here’s a video about them. One Easter, I went to the zoo and spent some time sketching them! I prefer the Haigh’s chocolate Bilby shape (much more fun to sketch, too!), but I didn’t get my act together this year, so I could only find a Darrell Lea one locally.
