Big News! A book

Just a quick post to give you the heads up that I am writing a book! yay!

Some of you might have been wondering why I haven’t already written a book… well,  I have been in touch with publishers about a few projects over the last two years, but for various reasons the timing or the concepts weren’t quite right. But, I am super excited that this book fits like a glove.

It has always been a dream of mine to write a book – so it is VERY VERY exciting that it’s happening now!

I can’t tell you much at the moment, but I can tell you that it is about sketching architecture!

One of the first things I did was to look back through the 150 sketchbooks I have filled since 2007 – I did this digitally – and created an image bank of 1000 architecture sketches to search through! That’s waaaay more than I need but it has been great to get it together like that.

It is amazing to look back through my early work, especially my early travel sketches, and realise how risk-taking I was from the start! The basis of this confidence to ‘just have a go’ is related to my experience as an architect. My work has developed a lot over the years, but most of my visual thinking related to simplifying architectural subjects (constructing volumes) is in evidence in my early sketches.

Anyway, I am so excited to have this opportunity to share lots of tips that I have accumulated over 20 years of experience as an architect designing buildings, and during the last 9 years as an obsessive sketcher. I love the way my profession and my hobby inform each other.

It goes without saying that I am going to be just a little busy over the next few months, so my blogging will have to scale down a touch! I still plan to keep it up (it is the core of everything I do), but will need to make the posts shorter and I might have to rely on mirroring my Instagram feed.  So please stick with me over the next few months and I am sure you will get lots of sneak peeks into my thought processes as I go along.
