My second month of participating in the Virtual Sketch Date – I found this photo quite hard and not sure what to do with all the shadows on the tree trunk. I am also just getting to know a completely new type of paper as well… Ah! Having fun as usual!

Great drawing, Liz!
I don’t know if you did it intentionally, but to me it looks like your sky colour fades almost to white as you go down the page. Really neat! (maybe it’s just the way I see your spread on my monitor..?)
I, too, had to make two attempts. I really like what you did here!
Nice sketch! I also found this reference to be more challenging than I originally thought. I like the mix of colors in your shadows. Thanks too for your review of the sketchbook. Soon I’ll be in the market for a new one since mine is almost full.
There’s an ease and looseness to your sketch that hides any difficulty you felt. Great job!
Hi Liz, it’s always nice to see into other people’s sketchbooks. It was quite a demanding photo this month but you’ve tackled it confidently, and I like your side notes too :o)
You’ve captured the essence of the photo. I love the looseness of this. It looks like it just flowed off the end of your pen, with no effort.
Hi Liz,
I like the pen and water colour. Nice and loose, I also like your dappled shade.
The autumn breezes fairly whoosh through this charming sketch.
I love the light, spontaneous feel of this drawing!
Liz – I agree with the other’s comments – this is a great and airy sketch, it captures the feel of a fall day without being overly detailed. Great job!
Loose and lovely, Liz! I agree, this was a difficult photo ref–but so appealing!
You did well with the shadows. Lovely sketch.
